Mission Statement

Secure Harbor is a patient advocacy non-profit supporting all patients and their families by providing financial assistance with temporary housing, meals, and transportation during the patient's evaluation and/or treatment of a rare blood malignancy known as Amyloidosis, thus promoting Amyloidosis awareness and support of Amyloidosis research.

Pastor Jeff Wade, Chairperson

Pastor Wade is an ordained minister with over 20 years of service. He has held pastoral positions as a Youth Pastor and as a Senior Pastor. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Lakeland, Florida’s Southeastern University, and also a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University in Gainesville. He grew up in Virginia and Florida, as the son of a Pastor.


Matthew N. Reid, President

Matthew N. Reid was born in Akron, Ohio and attended the University of Akron graduating with B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. He is also President of Intech Computer Solutions, Inc founded in 2001, an information technology organization.


Rosemary Orlando, Treasurer

Rosemary is a partner with Howard, Wershbale & Co’s Healthcare Advisors and Accounting & Auditing Groups and has worked at this firm since 1995. She has extensive experience in Medicaid & Medicare reimbursement, accounting and auditing issues with healthcare providers, including Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICF-MR) and Skilled Nursing Facilities. Rosemary also serves as a member of the Ohio Provider Resource Association (OPRA) and has served on several of its committees. She is also a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs’ and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


Kathy Finn RN NP, Director

Kathy is the Director of the Clinical Trials Program at the Boston Medical Center, in Boston, MA. She holds a BSN from the University of Mass., in 1983, a MSN from Simmons College of Health Sciences, Boston, MA. She has many published writings on Amyloidosis (see attached addendum). Her passion for patients and their care is insurmountable; she has the capability to know the needs of her patients; and is the liaison for Secure Harbor in their quest to financial assist the needs of families during treatment and evaluation.


Christina M. Thayer, MPA, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations

Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. She has over 20 years of experience in leadership, outreach and fundraising roles for several nonprofit organizations. Most recently, she finished an internship role for the Center for Nonprofit Excellence in Akron, OH, assisting in their Resource Room writing articles and other written communications to assist the Center in providing helpful references for other nonprofits from across the United States. She is enthusiastic to advocate for Amyloidosis support. Chris is married with two teenage children.


Connie A. Hornbeck, Director of Operations

Connie is the co-founder of Secure Harbor, with her husband, Tim. They have owned and operated Secure Homes, LLC, since 2005. She has extensive experience in accounting and worked as a Business Accounting Manager for the last 13 years, until Tim’s Amyloidosis diagnosis in 2008. She is responsible for the bookkeeping functions and day to day operation of Secure Harbor and Secure Homes, LLC.
